Arusha
Zanzibar (Tanzanie) · -3.38°, 36.68°
The safari capital of Africa sits at 1,400m on the slopes of Mount Meru, equidistant between Cairo and Cape Town — a fact celebrated by the city's geographic centre monument. Gateway to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara, Arusha is where the world's greatest wildlife experiences begin.
Mount Kilimanjaro
Africa's highest peak (5,895m) and the world's highest free-standing mountain. The Marangu, Machame, and Lemosho routes ascend through five distinct climate zones — rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit. Kilimanjaro is a non-technical climb. 75–90% of climbers who attempt the summit successfully reach it on the longer routes.
Tarangire National Park
The least-known of the northern circuit parks and arguably the most underrated. Giant baobab trees, enormous elephant herds (the largest in northern Tanzania), and the Tarangire River creating a wildlife magnet in the dry season. Tree-climbing lions occasionally spotted. 118km from Arusha.
